Valentine’s French Toast

Start your Valentine’s Day off to a great start by treating your loved one to a wonderful breakfast! Add your desired toppings to make this breakfast extra indulgent, or even make this as dessert after a wonderful dinner. Depending on the size of the hearts, the amount of bread that you’ll need will change. Mini hearts would make a romantic meal to share, or slice the bread into thick slices and have an indulgent breakfast for two.

Servings 2

Ingredients

  • 6 thick slices of sourdough bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • butter
  • any toppings of your choice: confectioner’s sugar, melted chocolate, strawberries, raspberries, maple syrup, etc.

Instructions

  • Cut the bread into heart shapes. Mix together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract and salt. Soak the bread in this mixture until plump, about 10-15 minutes.
  • Melt some butter on a frying pan set to medium heat. Fry the bread on each side until golden, about 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat, place a lid on the frying pan, and allow the bread to steam for about 5 minutes.
  • Place the french toast on a plate, and decorate with your desired toppings. You can try dusting over some icing sugar, putting some melted chocolate or maple syrup in a small ramekin, or eating them with fruit.
