Princess Mononoke Shishigami Cheese Ball

As strange as this is, it tastes REALLY good! It’s made of 3 stacked cheese balls, that all pair perfectly with each other and with the season, but are each slightly different, so everybody at your party will be able to find a layer at appeals to them!

Ingredients

Body

  • ½ pound cream cheese room temperature
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese grated
  • ½ tbsp Dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • pepper
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans

White Mane & Markings

  • 140 g white cheddar cheese grated
  • 115 g cream cheese room temperature
  • 115 g goat cheese room temperature
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • sliced almonds

Face

  • ¼ pound cream cheese room temperature
  • ½ cup cheddar cheese grated
  • ¼ tbsp Dijon mustard
  • ¼ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • pepper
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries

Decoration

  • pretzel sticks
  • white cheddar cheese
  • nori seaweed
  • crackers for serving

Instructions

  • Make the body: Mix together both cheeses with a spoon or electric mixer. Then add the Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, pepper and 2 tbsp of the pecans, and mix well. Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap, and sprinkle on the remaining chopped pecans. Place the cheese mixture on top, and shape it into a large oval shape. Wrap the cheese in the plastic wrap, and set in the fridge overnight.
  • Make the white mane and markings: Mix together all of the cheeses, and add the pepper. Place about ¾ of the mixture onto a sheet of plastic wrap, and shape it into an oval that is slightly smaller than the body. Wrap this in the plastic wrap, and set in the fridge overnight. Place the remaining cheese on a sheet of plastic wrap, and roll it into a long roll. Set this in the fridge as well.
  • Make the face: Mix together both cheeses, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce and pepper, and then place it on a sheet of plastic wrap and shape it into the head. Place this in the fridge to set overnight.
  • Assemble the cheese ball: Remove the plastic wrap from all of the pieces, and place the body section on a serving tray. Place the white mane section on top, and place the face on top of that. Press some dried cranberries into the face to create Shishigami’s red face. Try to avoid having any white areas peeking out. Stick the sliced almonds into the mane at an angle to resemble fur. Using the roll of cheese made from the mane, create the facial markings and the nose, and stick them on top of the face. Slice out two eyes from white cheddar cheese, as well as the black markings on its face and its pupils out of nori seaweed. Then stick the pretzels in to look like antlers, and you’re done!

Notes

This is the strangest thing that’s ever come out of my kitchen. I’m not even kidding, I was laughing so hard when I was filming the last few scenes that I could hardly keep the camera steady. This is probably the weirdest cheese ball ever. In the whole entire world.
