Rainbow Checkerboard Cookies | 虹色のチェック模様のクッキー

Ingredients
2 cups flour
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
½ cup unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp milk
pink, orange, yellow, green and blue food colouring

Directions
1. Mix together the flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until it becomes light and fluffy. Add the milk, egg and vanilla, and mix well. Then slowly add the flour mixture until it is just combined.
2. Divide the dough in half and place one half aside.
3. Divide the second half into 5 pieces and dye them pink, orange, yellow, green and blue and roll them into sausage shapes, then press them together. Roughly shape both the white and rainbow dough into squares, wrap them in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge until firm.
4. Roll the white dough out into a 7”x7” square. Use a ruler to slice the dough into nine ¾-inch-wide strips. Roll the coloured dough into 7”-long sausages and arrange them side by side, pressing them together. Roll into a 7”x7” square. Slice the dough into 9 strips as well.
5. Place a sheet of plastic wrap on your surface and place a pink, white and orange strip of dough on top. Gently press them together. Place a white strip on top of the pink, a yellow strip on top of the white, and another white strip on top of the orange. Gently press together. Create the 3rd layer by placing a green strip on top of the white, a white strip on top of the yellow and a blue strip on top of the white. Wrap in the plastic wrap and shape into a clean rectangle shape. Repeat with the remaining dough, alternating the coloured dough with the white dough. Place the dough in the freezer for 25 minutes, or until frozen solid.
6. Unwrap the dough and slice into ¼-inch thick slices. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 350F for 10 minutes. Cool the cookies on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack and cool completely. Enjoy!

材料
小麦粉 2カップ
塩 小さじ1/4
ベーキングパウダー 小さじ1/2
無塩バター(室温に戻した) カップ1/2
砂糖 1カップ
卵 1個
バニラエッセンス 小さじ1
牛乳 大さじ2
虹色の食用色素

作り方
①小麦粉、塩とベーキングパウダーをボウルで混ぜる。別のボウルでバターと砂糖を加え、泡立て器でふわふわになるまで泡立てる。牛乳、卵とバニラエッセンスを加え、よく混ぜる。粉類をゆっくりで加える。
②生地を2等分に分け、片方を別にしておく。
③残りの半分を5等分に分け、虹色に着色する。生地を伸ばして、一緒につけ、四角形にする。白色の生地も四角形にし、ラップにし、冷蔵庫に入れ、冷やす。
④綿棒で各生地を7x7インチの四角形に伸ばして、9本にスライスする。
⑤ラップを調理台にひき、ピンク色の生地1本、白色の生地1本とオレンジ色の生地1本を並び、ピンク色の上に白色の生地1本を入れ、その横に黄色の生地1本と白色の生地1本を並ぶ。その上に緑色、白色と青色の生地を並ぶ。ラップに包み、冷凍庫に入れ、しっかり固まらせる。
⑥ラップを剥がし、0.5cmの厚さにスライスする。クッキングシートが引いた天板に並び、176度のオーブンで10分焼く。天板に並んだままで5分冷まし、編みに移し、しっかり冷ますと完成です!
