Jelly Bow Ties | ボウタイのゼリー

These are perfect for anybody who loves to wear bow ties! Jello is layered with condensed milk jelly to create this beautiful striped pattern – it’s like having a striped bow tie, but the stripes are on the side! You can use any colour jello that you like – and even add a few drops of food colouring to the condensed milk jelly – to create any bow tie that you like! It can be kind of time consuming with the 20 minute wait between all of the layers, but just pop a movie in and watch it while you make these!

Ingredients (makes about 9 bowties)

❤ 4 (3-ounce) boxes of blue Jello
❤ 4 cups boiling water
❤ 1 ½ tsp x 4 of powdered gelatin
❤ 1 can of condensed milk
❤ 1 cup boiling water
❤ ½ cup cold water
❤ 2 tbsp powdered gelatin
❤ ½ cup boiling water

1. There will be 4 blue layers and 3 white layers. The blue layers will be made as you need them and the white layers will be made all at once. Each layer will be placed in the fridge to set for 20 minutes before pouring on an additional layer of jelly. The jellies will be stacked in the following order: blue > white > blue > white > blue > white > blue.
2. To make each blue layer, pour the contents of one box of blue jello and 1 ½ tsp of gelatin into a bowl and combine. Add 1 cup of boiling water and mix until everything is completely dissolved. Pour the jelly into a 9 ½ x 11 inch baking dish and place in the fridge for 20 minutes or until completely set.
3. To make the white layers, combine the condensed milk and boiling water.
4. Pour ½ cup cold water into a bowl and sprinkle over 2 tbsp of powdered gelatin. Allow this to sit for 2-3 minutes, then add ½ cup boiling water and mix well. Add this to the condensed milk mixture and fully combine.
5. Once the first layer of blue jelly has set, gently pour 1 cup of the condensed milk mixture on top and return to the fridge to set for at least 20 minutes. Repeat with another layer of blue jello and continue until you have 4 layers of blue jelly and 3 layers of white jelly.
6. Using a bow-shaped cookie cutter, gently cut out bowtie shapes, pulling away the excess jelly first, then gently remove the bowties from the baking dish.
