How to Make a Stadium Cake

½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
6 large eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for pan
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 ½ cups buttermilk
cooking spray

Frosting, your desired colours
gummy bears
flag picks
green sprinkles

1. Beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until pale and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, beating with each addition.
2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Add this to the butter mixture in 2 additions, alternating with the buttermilk.
3. Spray a stadium cake pan generously with cooking spray. Add a couple spoonfuls of flour into the pan and shake the pan around until all surfaces of the pan are coated in flour. Tap out the excess flour, then pour the batter into the pan.
4. Bake at 350F for 40 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the cakes comes out clean. Cool the cake in the pan for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a flat surface. Cool completely.
5. Trim the bottom of the cake with a serrated knife, so that the cake sits flat on your desired platter.
6. Decorate the stadium with frosting that correspond with the teams that are playing, stick gummy bears onto the stands and flags onto the corners. Fill the middle of the cake with green sprinkles to look like grass, or with other treats for game day!
